The Art and Craft of Writing Seminar

Are You a Writer?

Or Dream of Being a Successful One?

This 6-Week Workshop Could Change the Rest of Your Life...

And give you the all the tools you need to take your

creativity and writing to the next level

— whether you're a beginning writer or a writer looking to become a master of your art and craft!

Starting Thursday, February 28th – April 11th

Hosted by: Marc Allen, Founder of New World Library
& Kent Nerburn, Best-Selling Author

All of us have a story to tell

All of us have a message to share.  But so often we lack the confidence to bring our story into the light.

Am I good enough?

Do I have enough talent?

Do I really have anything to say?

Will anyone care?

These are questions all of us face on our artistic journey.

The Art and Craft of Writing Seminar
will help you get beyond these fears

and into the telling of your story

and sharing of your message.

It will help you to see that your dreams are worthy,

and that your struggles and hopes are real.

And it will give you the courage to create in spite of the issues,

both seen and unseen, that you will inevitably face on your journey.

"Forget the ‘must do's,’ and concentrate on the 'you probably won't get far withouts."

 - J.K. Rowling

There is an art  to writing as well as a craft… something most how-to books overlook.

In this unique course, along with addressing specific questions about the writer’s craft, we’ll talk about the most important issues writers struggle with and give you the essentials to take with you on your creative journey to be the successful writer you dream of…

In this 6-week teleseminar,
Marc Allen, Publisher of New World Library,
and Kent Nerburn, Bestselling Author,

will share insights from their many years of working in the field of writing

— as authors, editors, and publishers.

Here are just some of the things you’ll discover through this interactive workshop:

  • How to court the Muse
  • How to find your own voice (or voices)
  • Ways you can avoid the pitfalls of writing
  • How to know when your work is finished
  • How to deal with fear of failure and the experience
    of rejection
  • The toll of money on the creative spirit
  • The psychic connection between artist and audience

In addition…

During the Q&A sessions at the end of each session, you’ll be able to ask questions about any area of concern in your own writing process.

Because this is an interactive course, we encourage your emails and participation by submitting 1 or 2 pages of your writing. Both Marc and Kent will be available to offer suggestions and ideas to support you.

This is a seminar about you and for you…  and you’ll leave with a greater confidence in your writing voice and a stronger belief in the possibility of fulfilling your dreams as a writer, whatever they might be.

No matter where you are in your writing journey, whether you haven’t quite got started or have ‘false starts,’ or you’re stuck in the middle, or racing down the finish line… Marc and Kent will offer guidance and help you find your next steps.

Course Overview

WEEK ONE
THE WRITER’S JOURNEY

In this first session, you’ll be guided through the best exercise you can do to fulfill your dreams as a writer – and the one that set Marc on his own path to success as a publisher, writer, musician and composer.

We’ll talk about finding your voice and freeing yourself from the stranglehold of writer’s block.

WEEK TWO
BEGINNING THE JOURNEY

In this session, we’ll cover some of the issues we all must confront when you begin your life as a writer: discovering your artistic voice, finding the balance between inspiration and craft, overcoming the pain of rejection and having the courage to fail, the dilemma of making a living, the unlikely benefit of anonymity and the unexpected burden of success.

WEEK THREE
THE HIDDEN SECRETS

In this session, we’ll share some of the hidden discoveries you will experience on your journey:

The magical power of accident, the importance of long patience and making the right decision, the joy of making friends across time and space, the conundrum of being finished with your work emotionally before the work is actually complete, the hard decision of knowing when to let your work go.

WEEK FOUR
THE CARING EYE

In this session, we’ll share our experiences of working together as writer and editor for 30 years:

What makes a good editor (and a bad one), as well as what you’ll want to look for in this essential relationship that ultimately shapes the writer’s work. We invite your participation and sharing of writing samples in a safe environment. Together, we can look at a selection of writing and offer our thoughts on where it is strong, where it could be improved, and suggest ways to make it a better piece of writing.

WEEK FIVE
PICKING UP THE PIECES

In this session, we’ll look more closely at issues that have come up in the first four weeks, and delve more deeply into subjects that you, the participants, have brought up or that we feel need to be explored more fully.

WEEK SIX
WHY THE JOURNEY MATTERS

In this session, you’ll discover why the writing life matters, both to the individual and the wider world, and how artistry can be applied to every facet of your life.
